Minister for Women, Children, and Social Protection, Sashi Kiran, recently welcomed Canadian High Commissioner to Fiji, Jennifer Lalonde, and Canadian Secretary of State for International Development, Randeep Sarai, at Nadi International Airport. Sarai’s inaugural visit to Fiji spans three days, during which he will explore important projects in various locations, including Nadi, Sigatoka, and Suva, with a focus on enhancing Canadian trade in the region.

A highlight of Sarai’s trip is the announcement of the Pacific Women Entrepreneurs as Island Guardians Project (2024–2028). This initiative aims to empower women entrepreneurs in Fiji, Samoa, and Tuvalu, promoting economic growth and providing vital support to women-led businesses. In addition, Sarai will officially open Canada’s High Commission in Suva later this week, signaling a commitment to strengthening diplomatic relations between Canada and Fiji.

The visit also includes a series of bilateral discussions with high-ranking government officials, the Pacific Island Forum Secretariat, and other key stakeholders, reinforcing collaborative efforts between the two nations. With a strong emphasis on women’s empowerment within the economic landscape, this visit marks a hopeful step forward for development across the Pacific Islands.
