The Butler women’s basketball team showcased their strength with a resounding 101-56 victory over Indiana State at Hinkle Fieldhouse, marking a return to winning form for the Bulldogs. Redshirt sophomore forward Mallory Miller had a standout performance, achieving a career-high of 16 points and helping the team to a 5-6 record this season.
Miller was quick to impact the game, contributing nine of Butler’s first 14 points as both teams exchanged baskets early on. Once the Bulldogs found their rhythm, their offense surged, shooting an impressive 60% during the first quarter, which allowed them to establish a solid 22-10 lead.
A pivotal 7-0 run in the second quarter, spurred by four points from junior forward Caroline Dotsey, extended Butler’s lead to 20 midway through the period. Indiana State struggled offensively, failing to score in the last 4:05 of the half. This lapse allowed Butler to capitalize, launching a 16-3 run and entering halftime with a commanding 48-17 advantage. The Sycamores managed only six field goals in the first half, struggling with a mere 17.1% shooting percentage.
The Bulldogs maintained their momentum throughout the game, limiting Indiana State to just four points in the first three minutes of the fourth quarter and reaching over 100 points for a 45-point victory.
Miller’s efficient performance featured 6-for-9 shooting, supplemented by seven rebounds and two assists. Other players contributing in double figures included redshirt sophomore guard Saniya Jackson, sophomore guard McKenna Johnson, first-year guard Addison Baxter, and Dotsey, with the team collectively shooting 57.8% from the field.
On the defensive end, Butler forced 21 turnovers, continuing their trend of forcing opponents into double-digit turnovers for the 13th time in their last 14 games. Indiana State’s offense, led by sophomore guard Tierney Kelsey with 14 points and junior forward Clemisha Prackett’s 15 rebounds, faced challenges, shooting only 27.9% overall and a dismal 10.5% from beyond the arc.
With nonconference play wrapping up, Butler will host Eastern Illinois on December 14 at 2 p.m., aiming to carry this momentum into upcoming games. The Bulldogs’ determination and robust performance against Indiana State reflect a positive trajectory as they navigate the season ahead.
