Just days after dedicating a new song to the residents of Minneapolis, Bruce Springsteen performed alongside Tom Morello at the Defend Minnesota! benefit concert held at the iconic First Avenue venue on Friday. Morello had hinted at a surprise guest for the event, leaving fans in anticipation until Springsteen took the stage.

Earlier this week, Springsteen released a single titled “Streets of Minneapolis.” The song’s poignant lyrics reflect the turmoil in the city, describing it as “a city aflame fought fire and ice ’neath an occupier’s boots,” referencing what Springsteen calls “King Trump’s private army.” The song was written and recorded in response to the recent tragic death of Alex Pretti, marking the second fatal shooting in Minneapolis involving federal officers. It also pays tribute to another victim, Renee Good, who was killed on January 7.

In a heartfelt statement, Springsteen dedicated the song to “the people of Minneapolis, our innocent immigrant neighbors and in memory of Alex Pretti and Renee Good.” His powerful message highlights the ongoing struggle residents face and the impact of such violence on communities.

The concert saw Morello speak out against federal immigration operations, a theme he has been vocal about on social media. Along with Springsteen, he was joined by Rise Against, Al Di Meola, and Ike Reilly, all artists known for their activism and advocacy.

This event stands as a testament to the power of music and solidarity in times of crisis, as artists rally together to bring attention to important social issues and support affected communities.
