As the Atlanta Braves gear up for their night game in Fort Myers this Friday, some of their star players have taken to the world stage in the World Baseball Classic. Ronald Acuña Jr. faced off against teammate Ozzie Albies and baseball legend Andruw Jones as pool play commenced.
In a lighthearted atmosphere, Acuña and Albies showcased their camaraderie both before and during the match. The playful banter between the two was evident, particularly when Acuña, after hitting a double, teased Albies following a missed pick-off attempt. The light-hearted moment captured the spirit of competition and friendship.
After Venezuela triumphed over the Netherlands with a score of 6-2, Acuña took to social media to continue the playful rivalry, posting, “I have a signed shirt for you, brother,” while tagging Albies. He challenged Albies with a cheeky message saying, “You can’t beat me, dawg.”
In the game, Acuña logged a solid performance, going 1-for-4 with a walk and scoring two runs. He contributed to Venezuela’s lead by bringing in the first run and later scoring again thanks to a hit by Wilson Contreras. On the other hand, Albies experienced a tough outing, finishing 0-for-4. His Netherlands teammate, Chadwick Tromp, also had a challenging game, going hitless but managing to draw a walk.
Meanwhile, another Braves player, Nacho Alvarez Jr., made waves as Mexico faced Great Britain in Houston. Alvarez, who was a late addition to the Mexican roster, made an immediate impact. He launched a spectacular home run in the second inning, sending the ball soaring 394 feet to left field, all while flaunting a luchador mask upon crossing home plate to celebrate.
At the time of this article’s publication, Mexico was leading Great Britain 4-1 in the ninth inning, with plans to compete against Brazil next on Sunday.
The friendly competition among the Braves showcases not only their talent on the field but also the strong bonds that make the game exciting. As pool play continues, fans can look forward to more thrilling moments and camaraderie among their favorite players.
