The highly anticipated sequel “Black Phone 2” is set to make its streaming debut on Peacock on January 16. This follow-up to the 2021 horror hit, directed once again by Scott Derrickson, brings back the haunting presence of Ethan Hawke as the sinister Grabber, who continues to torment siblings Finney and Gwen Blake, portrayed by Mason Thames and Madeleine McGraw, respectively.

The plot of “Black Phone 2” occurs four years after the events of the original film, delving into the psychological trauma endured by Finney and Gwen. As they grapple with their newfound telekinetic abilities, the Grabber re-emerges, bent on vengeance against the siblings for their earlier confrontation. The sequel not only retains fan-favorite characters like Miguel Mora and Jeremy Davies but also introduces new actors including Arianna Rivas, Demián Bichir, Maev Beaty, Graham Abbey, and Anna Lore. The screenplay, crafted by Derrickson and C. Robert Cargill, promises to weave a tale filled with suspense and supernatural elements.

“Black Phone 2” had its premiere at Fantastic Fest in September and has earned over $125 million globally at the box office, marking it as a notable success in a generally slow October for film releases. However, it did not surpass the earnings of its predecessor, “The Black Phone,” which amassed $161 million in 2021.

Both films are adaptations stemming from Joe Hill’s short story included in his anthology “20th Century Ghosts,” with Hill also contributing to the narrative for the sequel. Produced by Jason Blum alongside Derrickson and Cargill, and released by Universal Pictures, “Black Phone 2” continues to expand upon the eerie legacy established by its predecessor, promising further thrills for horror enthusiasts.
