Rapper BigX, known for his impactful country rap album, “I Hope You’re Happy,” released in August, recently opened up about the profound significance of performing at the Ryman Auditorium. In a candid interview with Ebro Darden at Apple Music, BigX discussed how collaborator Shaboozey enlightened him on the venue’s historical importance, which he initially did not grasp.
During a visit to Shaboozey’s concert at the Pinnacle in Nashville, BigX was surprised when Shaboozey pointed out the prestige of performing at the Ryman. “Shaboozey had a show last night. I went to it and after the show we was talking and he was like, ‘Man, you performing at the Ryman, man. That’s crazy,’” BigX recounted. Initially, he felt puzzled, pointing out the impressive nature of Shaboozey’s own performance at the venue. However, Shaboozey explained the Ryman’s legacy as a historic church and a revered site for country music. Through this conversation, BigX came to appreciate that he was stepping onto a stage previously occupied by the genre’s greats.
In October, BigX headlined an event titled “BigXthaPlug & Friends” at the Ryman, which saw an eager crowd of over 2,500 fans fill the iconic venue. The performance marked a pivotal moment in his career, following his journey from a troubled past to a burgeoning music career. Born Xavier Landum, BigX faced challenges, including being incarcerated for burglary and aggravated robbery shortly after becoming a father. It was during his time in jail that he turned to writing rap lyrics as a way to channel his experiences and cope with his situation.
His debut album, “Lamar,” released in February 2023 and named after his young son, showcased his transition into country music, further solidified by his single “All The Way,” featuring Bailey Zimmerman, released in 2025.
Despite his rapid rise in the country music scene, BigX has assured fans that he won’t abandon his roots, stating that they can expect more music that reflects his life experiences rather than a complete genre shift. He has also expressed gratitude for the warm reception he has received from the country music community, stating, “It’s just crazy” how accepting they have been of him, highlighting the importance of inclusivity in the industry.
