Bam Adebayo returns to spark Heat past shorthanded Warriors

MIAMI — The Cleveland Cavaliers recently took a risk by allowing Donovan Mitchell and Evan Mobley to rest during their game against the Miami Heat, ultimately winning by 14 points. On Wednesday night, the Golden State Warriors followed suit, resting key players including Stephen Curry and Draymond Green during the second game of a back-to-back series. While expectations were low for their performance, the Warriors showed surprising resilience.

Despite leading by as much as 16 points, the Heat faced a tough challenge and ultimately secured a 110-96 victory at home, improving their record to 7-1. Miami’s coach Erik Spoelstra acknowledged that the team might have subconsciously relaxed, thinking the game would be easy after their early lead.

The return of Bam Adebayo added depth to the Heat’s lineup, with Adebayo contributing 20 points and seven rebounds in 29 minutes after recovering from a toe strain. Norman Powell was another standout for Miami, scoring 25 points, while former Warrior Andrew Wiggins added 17 points. Kel’el Ware provided support off the bench with seven points and 16 rebounds.

The game unfolded with the Heat establishing a strong beginning, leading the first quarter 29-20 as the Warriors struggled with an 0-for-12 start. However, Golden State fought back, taking their first lead at 60-59 in the third quarter. Miami’s resurgence in the fourth quarter included pivotal baskets from Adebayo that helped the team to regain control.

Spoelstra highlighted Adebayo’s important role upon his return, noting how his contributions were crucial for the Heat’s effort in the second half. The Heat coach managed Adebayo’s minutes carefully, ensuring he was fit for the upcoming games despite his recent absence.

Nikola Jovic did not participate due to a hip impingement, with the expectation of only missing one game. He had hoped to play but felt discomfort during practice leading up to the match.

Meanwhile, the Warriors faced significant challenges, missing several key players including Curry and Butler, as well as dealing with injuries to Jonathan Kuminga and De’Anthony Melton. They fielded a makeshift lineup, where Brandin Podziemski emerged as the leading scorer with 20 points.

Looking ahead, the Heat will face a crucial NBA Cup game against the Chicago Bulls on Friday, where a loss would eliminate them from advancing. The team is determined to maintain their momentum as they wrap up the two-game trip in Philadelphia on Sunday, hoping to build on their current success.
