With over 204,872 applications submitted, the Government’s $200 Back-to-School Assistance program for the upcoming 2026 school year is set to roll out payments starting this Friday. The Ministry of Finance has announced that eligible parents and guardians can expect to receive their financial assistance following a thorough vetting and verification process.

The initial distribution will positively impact around 185,000 students, resulting in a total payout of approximately $37 million. Payments for students transitioning from Year 12 to Year 13 are contingent upon the confirmation of their enrollment for the next academic year. However, about 10,000 applications are still in the verification stage due to issues related to incomplete or incorrect information.

To facilitate a smooth process, the Ministry of Education is partnering with schools to help parents and guardians resolve any outstanding issues, ensuring every eligible child receives the intended support. Those who do not see their payment by Monday are encouraged to seek assistance by contacting the Ministry of Education District Offices or the Help Desk at Waisomo House. Specific helpdesk numbers available are 3220551, 3314477, 9980079, or 9986069 for further inquiry.

In addition, the Ministry of Finance has emphasized the importance of utilizing this assistance wisely for children’s educational needs. Government agencies will be on alert to monitor local businesses to prevent price gouging and other unfair practices, demonstrating a commitment to supporting families and keeping educational resources within reach. This proactive approach reinforces the government’s dedication to ensuring that all children have access to necessary educational tools and resources as they head back to school.
