After three impressive years for both their men’s and women’s teams on the domestic front, the Ba Rugby Union is focusing on nurturing the next wave of talent. The union is set to launch its season with the Junior Club Championship, which will feature age categories ranging from Under-14 to Under-20.
Gabriele Kautoga, the BRU secretary, emphasized that only players registered with the union will be eligible to take part, promoting proper pathways and compliance throughout the competition. This championship will conclude just in time for the Fiji Secondary Schools Rugby Union competitions, allowing students to gain crucial experience as they prepare to compete against renowned teams such as Ratu Kadavulevu School, Marist Brothers High School, and Nasinu Secondary School.
The boys’ division is slated to commence on March 21, followed by the girls’ competition beginning on April 11. The Ba Rugby Union captured attention in 2023 with their men’s team achieving promotion to the Skipper Cup for the first time in 23 years, while the women’s team delivered an outstanding performance in the Ranadi Cup final, which secured them a historic place in this season’s Marama Cup.
This focused initiative not only highlights the union’s commitment to developing grassroots talent but also underscores a bright future for rugby in Ba, promising to foster a new generation of athletes ready to compete at higher levels.
