Ba Rugby Union is gearing up for an exciting 2026 season, showcased by the recent release of its official year planner. The season will kick off with the Annual General Meeting on March 7, followed by a development tournament for U14, U16, and U18 teams starting March 21 and culminating with a final on May 2.

A highlight of the season will be the inaugural Super Rugby match at the newly constructed 4R Stadium at Govind Park, where the Swire Shipping Fijian Drua will face off against the Brumbies on March 28. This event marks a significant milestone for the region, elevating its profile in the rugby community. Additionally, local club competitions are set to begin on May 9, featuring eight thrilling matches, culminating in the grand final on July 18, just ahead of the opening round of the Skipper Cup on July 25.

Gabby Kautoga, the secretary of Ba Rugby, expressed excitement for the year ahead, particularly with the strong focus on player development. “We are looking forward to an exciting year, especially with the programs we have planned for development,” Kautoga remarked.

A significant initiative for 2026 is the launch of an academy at Ba Methodist High School, aimed at nurturing young rugby talent and creating enhanced pathways for athletes in the district. Kautoga also highlighted the importance of qualifying local teachers with Level One and Level Two coaching certificates, ensuring that clubs meet the necessary accreditation standards.

“This year we are focusing on development, from schools to clubs. We want our teachers and coaches to be properly accredited so they can help build the future of Ba Rugby,” he stated, underscoring the importance of structured training for coaches.

With a vibrant calendar and a strong focus on development, Ba Rugby is optimistic about a successful 2026 season, promising thrilling experiences for players and fans alike. Kautoga encapsulated the enthusiasm by stating, “It will be an exciting year for Ba Rugby.”
