The Australian Fiji Rugby Union Under-20 team is preparing to make an impactful appearance this week, participating in a curtain-raiser match ahead of the first round of the Shop N Save Super Rugby Pacific series. This match will feature the Swire Shipping Fijian Drua taking on Moana Pasifika, giving the youth squad a prime opportunity to demonstrate their skills and talent.

Currently on a critical development tour in Fiji, the AFRU U20 team aims to bolster the Under-20 rugby pathway in the region, gearing up for upcoming international competitions. After arriving in Nadi last Friday, the team received a warm welcome from the Saunaka Village community, where they engaged in local traditions, including attending a church service, emphasizing the importance of cultural immersion during their stay. Training has already begun, which includes a friendly match against the Fiji Rugby Union Under-20 team at Lawaqa Park in Sigatoka.

The tour will conclude with an exciting matchup on Saturday, as the Australian Fiji Rugby Union Under-20 team faces off against the Drua Development squad in Lautoka. This anticipated match set for 12:30 pm will lead directly into the main event of the day, with the Fijian Drua competing against Moana Pasifika at 3:35 pm at Churchill Park.

The squad expresses heartfelt thanks to Electro Fire Technologies for their generous support of this tour, as well as appreciation for the Fiji Rugby Union, Saunaka Village, the Fijian Drua, and the broader community for their warm hospitality. This collaborative effort showcases the deep connections between Australia and Fiji and emphasizes the focus on nurturing young rugby talent. The event not only looks to enhance the development of these athletes but also fosters unity within the rugby community, promoting a positive outlook for their future in the sport.
