Augsburg is ready to move forward after their surprising win against FC Bayern Munich, as they gear up for an important home match against St. Pauli. Coach Manuel Baum expressed confidence in his team’s ability to put the historic victory behind them while focusing on the upcoming challenges.

Baum downplayed the significance of labeling Saturday’s match as a “six-pointer”, stating, “I don’t let that affect me. I’m trying not to discuss it at all.” The crucial fixture in the Bundesliga, set for Saturday at 15:30 (Sky), pits the Augsburg side against the team currently second from the bottom of the league, making it essential for them to secure a win to distance themselves from the relegation zone.

The Augsburg players have reportedly managed to properly reflect on their impressive 2-1 victory over the previously unbeaten league leaders, Bayern. Baum noted that the team quickly shifted their focus back to match day routines and the challenges that lie ahead. The next few weeks, including matches against St. Pauli, Mainz 05, and Heidenheim, are positioned as pivotal, especially considering Augsburg’s previous losses to all three teams in the first half of the season.

Feeling optimistic, Baum shared, “I don’t let any pressure get to me. I’m extremely confident because we have a solid foundation for our optimism based on what we’ve achieved.” The prospect of improvement seems to energize him, particularly in reference to his team’s gameplay.

Among the players, midfielder Kristijan Jakic may potentially miss the match, along with one or two other unnamed players. However, Baum has no intention of dropping the standout debut player, Arthur Chaves, who made a significant impact in the match against Bayern. “He has handled the situation well, both on and off the pitch,” Baum said, highlighting Chaves’ training performances and his ability to inspire excitement as a coach. Chaves not only defended effectively against Bayern but also scored their equalizer, proving to be a valuable asset to the team.

With a focus on building momentum, Augsburg remains hopeful as they prepare to take on St. Pauli, aiming to solidify their position in the Bundesliga and bring renewed energy to their season.
