Auburn Senior Day spotlights Brian Battie’s resilience after tragedy

AUBURN — Brian Battie, the former Auburn football running back who endured a traumatic brain injury following a tragic shooting that claimed the life of his brother, is set to be honored as part of the 20 players recognized during Senior Day celebrations before the Tigers’ game against Mercer on Saturday, Nov. 22, at 1 p.m. CT.

Tommie Battie IV, Brian’s older brother, was fatally shot in the chest during an incident on May 18, 2024, in their hometown of Sarasota, Florida, and was pronounced dead at the scene. In the aftermath of the tragedy, Brian Battie was hospitalized in the ICU and underwent surgery that same night. Remarkably, he was able to leave the ICU by June 15, 2024, and began walking with the aid of a cane shortly thereafter. Although the incident marked the end of his playing career, Battie has continued to show his support for Auburn, returning for significant events such as last year’s Iron Bowl.

In addition to Battie, the list of Auburn football players recognized on Senior Day includes a variety of positions, showcasing the depth and talent of the 2025 squad. The honorees include:
