A24 has unveiled the trailer for its upcoming film “Mother Mary,” an unsettling musical drama featuring Anne Hathaway and Michaela Coel. Hathaway, known for her roles in “The Devil Wears Prada” and “The Idea of You,” stars as the fictional pop icon Mother Mary, who seeks to reignite her career by reconnecting with her estranged best friend and former costume designer, Sam Anselm, portrayed by Coel, famed for her performances in “I May Destroy You” and “Chewing Gum.”
The trailer suggests a narrative filled with tension and unresolved conflicts, ultimately hinting at underlying satanic or supernatural themes—a hallmark of A24 productions. Hathaway’s character expresses an enigmatic bond by stating, “We have a connection and I can’t explain it.”
Directed by David Lowery, known for “The Green Knight,” “Mother Mary” boasts an impressive ensemble cast that includes Hunter Schafer and Alba Baptista. Adding to its appeal, the film incorporates music by the popular artist Charli XCX, promising a dynamic soundtrack to complement its narrative.
Set to be released in April 2026, “Mother Mary” is part of a busy year for Hathaway, who is also starring in three additional projects: “The Devil Wears Prada 2” scheduled for May 1, “The Odyssey” on July 17, and “Verity” on October 2. The anticipation builds as audiences await this intriguing blend of music, emotion, and mystery in A24’s latest offering.
