Amari Latimer, one of the most highly-rated running back prospects in the history of the Wisconsin Badgers program, has switched his commitment to West Virginia University amid a strong late push from the Mountaineers. The decision comes at the beginning of the early signing period, marking a significant change for the 2026 recruitment class.
Initially announcing his commitment to the Badgers in July over a host of elite programs, including Georgia, Ohio State, Michigan, and Notre Dame, Latimer held nearly 60 scholarship offers. Although he publicly committed in July, he and his family had been contemplating this decision for about a year, with the official commitment being made back in April.
Throughout the season, Latimer maintained interest from several top-tier schools, including Ohio State, Georgia, Tennessee, and Miami. He also took visits to a variety of campuses, including those of Miami, Ohio State, and West Virginia. Interestingly, during a visit to Georgia in September, Latimer seemed confident in his commitment to Wisconsin, stating that the chance of flipping was “slim to none.” He had communicated this reassurance to Badgers head coach Luke Fickell during their conversations.
Latimer’s impressive senior season has further solidified his reputation as a top prospect. In just 13 games, he has amassed an astounding 2,171 rushing yards and crossed the end zone 40 times, averaging over 10 yards per carry. With nearly 4,700 rushing yards for his career, he has also showcased his versatility by catching 20 passes for 352 yards and four touchdowns this season.
Despite the loss of Latimer, Wisconsin has secured another tailback in Qwantavius Wiggins from Fairburn, Georgia, and currently holds 12 verbal commitments in their 2026 recruiting class. The Badgers remain focused on building a strong roster as they prepare for an exciting future in football.
