Alan Cumming is at the forefront of PETA’s latest campaign promoting vegan leather, just in time for New York Fashion Week, which has already prohibited the use of animal furs. The campaign, titled “Rebel With a Cause,” highlights Cumming in a striking ensemble that pays tribute to Marlon Brando’s iconic biker look in The Wild One.

In the campaign’s imagery, Cumming, 61, showcases a cactus leather jacket by All Saints, paired with vegan leather Dr. Martens boots and a matching motorcycle cap. He leans against a vintage Triumph motorcycle, encapsulating a daring aesthetic that underscores the message of the campaign. The accompanying poster boldly proclaims, “Be a Rebel with a Cause. Wear Vegan Leather,” reflecting the shift toward more ethical fashion choices.

Timed perfectly with New York Fashion Week Fall/Winter 2026, where animal fur is now banned, PETA is advocating for an extension of this ban to include animal skins. The organization hopes that Cumming’s stylish appearance in vegan leather will inspire the fashion industry to adopt more sustainable practices. The visuals, captured by photographer Richard Phibbs, are prominently displayed across various locations in New York City.

Cumming, known not only for his acting but also for his advocacy for animal rights, emphasizes the need for more environmentally friendly materials. In a video accompanying the campaign, he states, “You can be sexy and powerful wearing vegan leather. I’ve done it. It’s so much cooler to be a rebel with a cause.” He further critiques the dairy and meat industries for their detrimental impact on the planet and assures audiences that there are ample plant-based alternatives available.

Cumming’s commitment to animal welfare extends beyond this campaign. He is a passionate advocate for animal rights, as evidenced by his previous efforts, such as working to relocate Tonka, a captive chimp, to an accredited sanctuary, which was featured in the HBO series Chimp Crazy.

This campaign highlights not only the fashion industry’s evolving standards but also the potential for positive change in consumer choices toward animals and the environment. Cumming’s involvement brings a fresh and influential voice to the dialogue surrounding ethical fashion and sustainability, encouraging others to join the movement.
