Acting Fiji PM condemns attack on civil servants in Cakaudrove, vows tough action

Acting Prime Minister and Minister for Lands and Mineral Resources, Filimoni Vosarogo, has strongly denounced the recent assault on civil servants in Vusasivo, Cakaudrove, where government officials were attacked and a government vehicle was damaged while carrying out their duties. Vosarogo labeled this behavior as completely unacceptable and stressed the need for accountability for those involved in the incident.

In his remarks, Vosarogo highlighted the commitment of civil servants to their communities, stating that any form of violence or intimidation against them is intolerable. His comments reflect a broader concern regarding the harassment faced by public workers, including nurses, doctors, and teachers, who diligently serve the nation. Expressing his disappointment over the ongoing mistreatment of these essential professionals, he emphasized the government’s responsibility to protect them.

The Acting Prime Minister pledged that the government would take severe legal action against those responsible for the attack and the theft from the injured officers. He disclosed that the Commissioner of Police has deployed an operations team from Savusavu to conduct a thorough investigation and ensure necessary arrests are made.

To enhance the safety of government workers, Vosarogo advised them to seek police escorts when performing field duties in areas that may be considered dangerous, highlighting the importance of their protection while delivering crucial services to the public. He extended his best wishes to the injured officers, noting that most have received treatment and returned home, while one remains under medical observation.

By taking strong measures against violence towards civil servants, the government aims to cultivate a culture of respect and safety within communities, reinforcing the significance of public service. These actions signify an important step towards improving relationships between civil servants and the communities they cherish, fostering hope that such incidents will lead to greater recognition of their invaluable contributions.
