Indian cricket star Abhishek Sharma has been hospitalized due to a stomach infection, which raises doubts about his participation in the upcoming T20 World Cup match against Namibia. Reports indicate that his health had been declining prior to the recent game against the USA, where his condition worsened after the match. Despite his efforts to play, Abhishek was absent from the team practice at Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi, struggling with a high fever and needing intravenous drips for relief.

Ryan ten Doeschate, the team’s assistant coach, shared an update on Abhishek’s condition, expressing cautious optimism: “Abhi still has a few issues with his tummy. We are hopeful that he’ll be available for the game in two days’ time.” During the game against the USA, Abhishek was dismissed without scoring and was unable to take the field for India’s innings, with Sanju Samson substituting for him throughout.

A source from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) confirmed, “Abhishek has been admitted to a private hospital in Delhi due to a stomach infection. Some tests are being done to ascertain the problem. It is still not clear whether he will be discharged today. But match against Namibia looks doubtful as of now.”

In light of these developments, Washington Sundar has joined the Indian squad as they prepare for their second group-stage fixture against Namibia. Ten Doeschate confirmed his arrival and stated that he would train with the team. He also provided insights regarding the fitness of other key players, including Jasprit Bumrah, who has returned to training after a 10-day break and is reportedly feeling well.

Reflecting on India’s victory over the USA, Doeschate commended Suryakumar Yadav for his significant contribution: “Thankfully, our captain came good. He’s had an indifferent time over the past year, but that’s why he’s surrounded by good people. His leadership and consistency are evident in the way he played and rescued the team last week.”

The team and fans alike will be eagerly hoping for Abhishek’s swift recovery, as his presence on the field will be crucial for India’s success in the tournament.
