The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) staged a vigorous protest near the Delhi Assembly on Friday, calling for the dismissal and disqualification of BJP minister Kapil Mishra over comments deemed disrespectful to Guru Sahibs. The demonstration took place at Chandgi Ram Akhara and was led by MLAs Jarnail Singh and Kuldeep Kumar, with a substantial turnout of party supporters who chanted slogans advocating for Mishra’s resignation.
During the protest, Jarnail Singh criticized the BJP for what he described as its attempt to conceal divisive ideologies behind the reverence for Gurus. He emphasized the need to acknowledge the history of Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib, whose legacy symbolizes resistance to religious extremism. Singh denounced Kapil Mishra, labeling his past actions as inflammatory and asserting that individuals with such a record have no right to participate in the legislative process.
Singh stated, “We send a strong message to BJP leaders: they must cease using the names of the Gurus as a guise for divisive politics. Before invoking the name of Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib, they should familiarize themselves with his teachings, which advocate for standing against fanaticism.”
On the same day, Kuldeep Kumar, representing Kondli, expressed AAP’s intention to surround the Assembly as a direct response to Mishra’s actions, which included sharing a misleading video linked to religious sentiments. Kumar accused the BJP of attempting to distract from critical issues like pollution, inadequate rain shelter management, severe cold, and violence plaguing the city by resorting to what he termed “dirty politics.”
Kumar articulated AAP’s straightforward demand: the immediate removal of Kapil Mishra for his role in distributing the misleading content. He urged the Speaker of the Delhi Assembly to annul Mishra’s membership and called for the suspension of any BJP MLAs who further propagated the video.
Despite AAP MLAs being expelled from the Assembly, Kumar vowed that the party would persist in their fight against any disrespect towards the Guru Sahibs. He reiterated their position, emphasizing that a leader who incites communal tensions and manipulates religious names for political gain poses a threat to the well-being of Delhi.
The fervent rally reflects AAP’s commitment to confront what they perceive as a misuse of religious sentiments for political ends and signals their determination to uphold the principles of respect and unity in the face of divisive narratives.
