BA, FIJI – Litia Moce, a dedicated 24-year-old primary school teacher at St Teresa’s Catholic School in Ba, is on an inspiring journey to honor a promise made to her mother during her childhood. Moce lost her father when she was just nine months old and was raised by her widowed mother, who faced many challenges. Despite these hardships, Moce committed to creating a better future for both of them, a promise that has guided her educational and professional goals.
With three years of teaching experience under her belt, Moce is now pursuing further qualifications by enrolling in the Bachelor of Education (Primary) program at the Fiji National University (FNU). Her mother, currently a teacher at Balevuto Public School, has significantly influenced Moce’s career path, embodying the values of education and community service.
“My mother’s relentless dedication as a teacher and her deep faith motivated me to follow a similar route,” Moce shared. Initially aspiring to become a veterinarian, she has since found her true passion in teaching, stating, “I am blessed to be in this field because I love children and I love teaching.” Moce’s long-term goal is to become a lecturer at FNU, hoping to further enrich the educational landscape.
An equally compelling story comes from 17-year-old Ansh Kumar, who is committed to realizing the dreams of his late parents, who always encouraged him to strive for greatness. Having lost both parents at a young age, Kumar is now poised to pursue a Diploma in Agriculture (Level 5) from FNU’s College of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry. He believes that agriculture is vital to addressing food security and climate change and aspires to work with the Biosecurity Authority of Fiji to safeguard the agricultural sector.
The ongoing FNU 2026 Roadshow is currently engaging communities across various regions, including Rakiraki, Tavua, Lautoka, Nadi, Sigatoka, Navua, Nausori, Labasa, Taveuni, and Levuka, and will conclude this Saturday. This initiative not only raises awareness about educational opportunities but also highlights the resilience and aspirations of young Fijians like Moce and Kumar, who are eager to shape a brighter future for themselves and their communities. Their stories are a testament to the hope and determination found amongst Fiji’s youth, illustrating the potential they hold for positive change.
