In a commanding performance, Brock Purdy led the San Francisco 49ers to a 37-24 victory over the Tennessee Titans on Sunday, propelling the team to a record of 10-4 as they begin the final stretch of the season. Following their bye week, the 49ers showcased their offensive prowess by scoring on their first five possessions, a feat not accomplished since the 2021 season.

Purdy was instrumental in the victory, completing 23 of 30 passes for 295 yards, including three touchdown throws—two to Jauan Jennings and one to George Kittle. The running game saw contribution from Christian McCaffrey, who managed a touchdown despite only accumulating 87 yards from scrimmage. Remarkably, the 49ers converted their first seven attempts on third down, underlining their dominance in key situations.

For the Titans (2-12), rookie quarterback Cam Ward provided some sparks, throwing a touchdown pass to Gunnar Helm in the second quarter, followed by another to defensive lineman Jeffery Simmons in the fourth. Despite these efforts, the Titans struggled to maintain the momentum from their previous win against Cleveland, falling into a tie for the worst record in the NFL. The team has not successfully won back-to-back games since November 2022.

Tennessee let several opportunities slip away, particularly in the first half. After a missed deep shot to a wide-open Van Jefferson, kicker Joey Slye also failed to convert on a 50-yard field goal attempt as the half expired, leaving the score at 17-10 in favor of San Francisco.

The 49ers extended their lead in the third quarter when Purdy found Jennings once again. The Titans were unable to mount a response, struggling in their subsequent drives and failing to regain any foothold in the game.

Despite the defeat, Simmons had an impressive showing, recording a strip sack against Purdy and catching a 1-yard touchdown pass—marking his second career touchdown reception. This performance made history as he became just the sixth player since the NFL began officially recording sacks in 1982 to achieve both a sack and a touchdown catch in the same game, joining notable players like J.J. Watt and Mike Vrabel.

In terms of injuries, the Titans suffered a setback with three safeties leaving the game due to injuries in the first half, including Xavier Woods, Mike Brown, and Kevin Winston. Additionally, offensive lineman Kevin Zeitler and wide receiver Van Jefferson left in the second half, worsening the Titans’ already challenging season. On the 49ers’ side, defensive tackle Jordan Elliott was a late scratch due to a knee injury.

Next up, the Titans will host the Kansas City Chiefs next Sunday, while the 49ers will travel to Indianapolis on December 22, looking to build on their momentum. As the season unfolds, both teams will seek to address their challenges and emerge stronger moving forward.
