Blades Brown is a name that golf enthusiasts should keep on their radar. At just 18 years old, he made headlines by scoring an impressive 60 in the second round of the American Express, coming tantalizingly close to breaking the elusive mark of 59 with a missed birdie putt on his final hole.

Despite the heartbreak of not sinking that final putt, Brown’s achievement stands out as he has now become the youngest player ever to record a score of 60 or better on the PGA Tour, setting a course record at the Nicklaus Tournament Course in La Quinta, California. “The putt didn’t drop on hole No. 9, but it’s my lowest round on the PGA Tour, and I have a lot of positives to take into the weekend,” he shared with Golf Channel afterward.

With a stellar two-day total of 17-under, Brown finds himself tied for first place alongside world No. 1 golfer Scottie Scheffler. While Brown currently holds a world ranking of 485, this young prodigy, who turned professional just a year ago and has participated in only eight PGA events in 2025, showcases his potential as a rising star. “Scottie is obviously an unbelievable player, and to have my name next to his on the leaderboard— we’re halfway there, so I have a lot of golf to play, but this weekend I’m just going to focus on executing the shots I can and see what happens,” Brown commented.

This round adds to an already eventful week for Brown, who arrived in California late Wednesday after competing in four rounds at the Bahamas Great Abaco Classic on the Korn Ferry Tour. In total, Saturday will mark his seventh consecutive day of competitive golf, a testament to his commitment as he aims for full-time PGA Tour status.

Brown first caught the golf world’s attention at the age of 16 when he made history as the youngest player to earn medalist honors at the U.S. Amateur. Choosing to turn professional just a year later, despite multiple college offers, it’s clear he has the talent and determination to compete at the highest level.

As the tournament progresses, Brown and Scheffler will not be paired together on Saturday due to the American Express format, which features a unique three-round cut. However, all eyes will undoubtedly be on Brown this weekend as he tees off at 11:52 a.m. ET Saturday, with coverage starting at 4 p.m. ET on the Golf Channel. His impressive performance thus far has set a thrilling stage for what promises to be an exciting conclusion to the tournament.
