Sixteen-year-old Maika Dau has made history by becoming the youngest professional footballer in Fiji after signing with Bula FC for the inaugural season of the 2026 OFC Professional League. This milestone follows his impressive stint as the captain of Fiji’s team at the 2025 FIFA U-17 World Cup in Qatar, where he showcased his talent on an international stage.

Dau’s passion for football began in his early childhood, inspired by his father, Lorima Dau, a former midfielder for Rewa. His journey commenced in kindergarten, where he would often attend district training sessions with his father, building a solid foundation for his skills. By the time he reached year nine, he was already playing for Nasinu’s U-19 team, quickly moving up the ranks to the Fiji U-15 squad.

His rapid ascent in the sport continued as he joined Nasinu’s senior district side a year later while also representing Fiji at the U-16 level. His leadership came to the forefront when he captained Fiji during the OFC U-16 Men’s Championship, playing a pivotal role in the team’s qualification for the FIFA U-17 World Cup.

Dau’s promising future in football not only reflects his personal dedication and talent but serves as a beacon of hope for the future of Fijian football on the international scene. His achievements are inspiring, showing that with hard work and commitment, young athletes can reach significant milestones and impact the sport positively.
