After a long 15-year journey for justice, the case of American University professor Sue Ann Marcum, who was tragically murdered in her Maryland home, will be featured in tonight’s episode of 20/20. The segment, reported by 7News’ Maryland Bureau Chief Brad Bell, highlights the extensive coverage and development of this case.
John Quiñones, the host and journalist for 20/20, noted the importance of Bell’s involvement from the start. “Brad gave us such valuable background because he was there from the very beginning. He covered this from the beginning. He’s a legend in television news there in the DC area,” Quiñones stated, emphasizing the intricacies of the case that unfolded over the years.
Marcum, who was 52 years old at the time of her murder in October 2010, had a complicated relationship with her ex-boyfriend, Jorge Rueda Landeros. She reportedly entrusted him with over $300,000 to invest, funds that she never recovered. Notably, Landeros was also designated as the beneficiary of her life insurance policy.
The manhunt for Landeros took a significant turn in 2023 when he was apprehended in Mexico, just a short distance from the Southern border, while he was at a local coffee shop.
“This is one riveting story with lots of twists and turns, including a murder and an international manhunt that takes us from the DC area all the way to Guadalajara, Mexico, the pearl of the West,” Quiñones explained.
20/20 airs on ABC every Friday night at 9 p.m., offering viewers a closer look at this compelling and tragic story.
