Regular physical activity plays a crucial role in the fight against cancer, asserts Assistant Minister for Health Penioni Ravunawa. He urges the public to adopt an active lifestyle as an effective strategy to reduce the risk of developing the disease.

During his address at the Fiji Cancer Society’s World Cancer Day walk in Suva, Ravunawa emphasized that while routine health check-ups are important, maintaining a healthy lifestyle through a balanced diet and physical activity is essential for cancer prevention. He stated, “Cancer is a serious concern for the Ministry of Health and Medical Services. It is imperative that we understand our health, eat nutritious foods, and stay physically active.”

Ravunawa also highlighted the significance of family and community support in combating cancer, pointing out that events such as the cancer walk represent national unity and solidarity in this battle. Participants of the event completed a 5km walk around Albert Park, which concluded with energetic warm-up and cool-down Zumba sessions led by fitness group Zumba with Liti.

Fitness instructor Litiana Miller expressed her joy at seeing strong community involvement, underscoring that physical activity not only encourages better health but also champions a critical cause like cancer prevention.

The emphasis on regular exercise has become a central element of Fiji’s initiatives aimed at cancer prevention, highlighting fitness as a key component of leading a healthier life. The community’s enthusiastic participation in such events showcases a collective commitment to fostering a healthier future for all.
