The School District of Philadelphia is preparing for a significant winter storm forecasted to impact the region this weekend. The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Watch effective from 7 p.m. Saturday to 1 p.m. on Monday, January 26, 2026, projecting potential snowfall accumulations of up to 18 inches. A cold weather advisory is also in effect, leading the district to prioritize the safety and well-being of students, staff, and families.

As a precautionary measure, all schools within the district, including Early Childhood Centers and the Constance E. Clayton Education Center (Central Office), will be closed on Monday, January 26, 2026. Additionally, all after-school activities, including athletic programs and professional development sessions scheduled for that day, have been canceled.

Looking ahead, if severe weather conditions necessitate prolonged school closures, students will transition to remote learning from home, with district employees also working remotely. The district is actively monitoring the situation and adhering to its Inclement Weather Protocol to facilitate timely updates regarding school operations.

While the forecast presents challenges, it also offers opportunities for local families. Superintendent Tony B. Watlington Sr. encourages residents to make the most of the snow by engaging in activities like sledding and building snowmen, emphasizing the joy and memories that can be created during snow days, in alignment with the district’s core values.

The district remains committed to maintaining in-person learning whenever possible to enhance student achievement. Normal operations are anticipated to resume on Tuesday, January 27, unless circumstances dictate otherwise. Any changes to this schedule will be communicated through the district’s standard channels.

As the community braces for winter weather, the School District of Philadelphia wishes all students a safe and enjoyable winter day!
