Schools in the Western Division have been ordered to remain closed until further notice due to severe flooding and unsafe access on roads. Aseri Radrodro, the Minister for Education, made this announcement in coordination with the National Disaster Risk Management Office and other relevant agencies after receiving updates from Divisional Education Officers.

In contrast, educational institutions in the Northern, Eastern, and Central Divisions will proceed with regular operations. Nevertheless, parents and guardians are reminded that the ultimate choice of sending children to school lies with them, especially in areas prone to flooding where roads, crossings, or transport routes might still be hazardous.

Parents are strongly encouraged to prevent their children from attempting to cross flooded areas, including roads, creeks, or rivers. They are also advised to stay vigilant by monitoring official weather updates and advisories regularly.

School leaders have been instructed to maintain open lines of communication with their Management Committees and District Education Offices. It is vital for them to evaluate school grounds and facilities prior to resuming normal activities.

The Ministry of Education emphasizes that the safety and well-being of students, teachers, and families is its top priority, and additional updates will be communicated as necessary. This proactive approach underscores the commitment to ensuring a safe learning environment for all students.
