Nighttime temperatures across the West Coast are set to drop below freezing this weekend, prompting the National Weather Service to issue a cold weather advisory for Snohomish County. On Friday night, temperatures are forecasted to dip to around 29 degrees, with similar lows expected for both Saturday and Sunday nights.

National Weather Service Meteorologist Logan Howard indicated that the Everett area may experience lows in the mid-20s over the weekend, with temperatures slightly warmer near the water while inland areas could be colder. Daytime highs are anticipated to reach the mid-40s, gradually warming into the following week.

Interestingly, the region is currently experiencing an unusual stretch of dry weather, having gone 11 days without significant precipitation. This dry period marks the ninth instance of a 10-day or longer dry streak in January since record-keeping began at Seattle-Tacoma Airport in 1945. The last notable dry streak occurred in January 2025, lasting 13 days, while earlier instances were recorded in 2013 and other years.

Residents are urged to take precautions against the cold, and all warming centers in Snohomish County will be open on Friday night to assist those in need. More information on the nearest warming centers can be found on the Snohomish County public safety website.

As the weekend approaches, it is essential for everyone to prepare for the colder temperatures while also looking forward to a potential increase in warmth as next week progresses.
