Tulane University’s men’s basketball team is set to seek redemption as they host the North Texas Mean Green this Sunday at Avron B. Fogelman Arena in the Devlin Fieldhouse. The Green Wave brings an impressive home record of 8-3 this season into the matchup, with a split of 1-1 in conference play. The eagerly anticipated game will tip off at 4 p.m. and will be broadcast live on ESPN2. Fans can also catch the action on the Tulane Sports Network via 106.7 The Ticket or through the Tulane Athletics App and The Varsity Network App.

This will be the seventh all-time encounter between Tulane and North Texas, with the Green Wave trailing the series 2-4. Last season, Tulane fell to the Mean Green in their only matchup, losing 66-76 in Denton, Texas, on February 8, 2025. The one previous contest hosted by Tulane ended in defeat as well, with North Texas edging out the Green Wave 76-80 on February 28, 2024. The Green Wave’s last victory over the Mean Green came during the Conference USA Championships on March 12, 2014, when they claimed a 66-61 win in El Paso, Texas.

In their last outing, Tulane had its five-game winning streak halted with a 69-82 loss to UAB at home on January 14. This result not only diminished their home record to 8-3 but also snapped a four-game winning streak at the Devlin Fieldhouse. Despite the defeat, three players managed to score in double figures, led by 16 points from both Brumbaugh and another player, followed by 12 points from a third teammate. Brumbaugh has been consistent in his contributions, scoring in double figures in every game of his American Conference career, with two standout performances this season against Florida Atlantic and UTSA, where he netted 20 and 23 points, respectively.

North Texas enters Sunday’s game having lost their last two contests after falling to Wichita State 67-78 on January 11, bringing their season record to 10-7 and 1-3 in league play. The Mean Green has struggled in true road games, holding a 1-4 record, including 0-2 in conference play, while averaging 57.2 points scored and allowing 67.6 points against in those games.

Defensive prowess has been a cornerstone for North Texas this season, leading the conference in scoring defense (64.9), three-point percentage defense (28.7), and forcing an average of 15.88 turnovers per game. Key offensive contributors for the Mean Green include Je’Shawn Stevenson, Will McClendon, and David Terrell Jr., who collectively contribute 41.8 points per game.

Following this matchup, Tulane will prepare for a road trip to Boca Raton, Florida, for a rematch with Florida Atlantic on January 21, with the game scheduled to start at 6 p.m. CT, also on ESPN+.
