Air travelers in Columbus, as well as across the nation, will have an additional option for airport identification starting February 1, 2026. The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has introduced TSA ConfirmID, a new program designed for individuals who do not possess a REAL ID or other approved identification documents. Announced by the Columbus Regional Airport Authority on January 29, this initiative aims to facilitate smoother airport security processes.
For a fee of $45, travelers can apply for TSA ConfirmID online. Once verified, the identification is valid for a period of 10 days. Passengers who opt for this service are required to bring either an electronic or printed receipt to show to TSA officers at security checkpoints.
It’s important to note that TSA ConfirmID is specifically for those lacking a REAL ID or acceptable alternative forms of identification. According to TSA officials, approximately 95% of air travelers in Ohio already have a REAL ID or other compliant documents, indicating that the majority of passengers will not need to utilize this new option.
In addition to REAL ID-compliant driver’s licenses and state-issued enhanced driver’s licenses, the TSA recognizes a variety of other documents, including U.S. passports, Department of Homeland Security trusted traveler cards, and military IDs. This broad acceptance ensures that most travelers still have viable ways to navigate airport security without disruption.
As TSA ConfirmID rolls out, it highlights a commitment to improve the travel experience for those who may not have previously considered their identification options. This new program reflects ongoing efforts to adapt to the needs of travelers while maintaining safety and security protocols at airports.
