President Donald Trump recently directed his ire at Rep. Thomas Massie, targeting the congressman’s wife, Carolyn Moffa, in a post on Truth Social. Trump suggested that Massie’s marriage to Moffa may have influenced the congressman’s political positions, implying that her progressive leanings were causing Massie to stray from Republican values. Trump stated, “People are saying that Thomas Massie became a Liberal because his new wife…is supposedly a Radical Left ‘flamethrower.’” Massie, who married Moffa, a former staffer for Sen. Rand Paul, in October, responded on social media by defending her and emphasizing her loyalty to Trump during previous elections.

In his message, Trump reaffirmed his endorsement of Ed Gallrein, a retired Navy SEAL and staunch Trump supporter running against Massie in Kentucky’s 4th District, declaring, “Thomas Massie is a Complete and Total Disaster, we must make sure he loses, BIG!” This marks a continuation of Trump’s focus on Massie, with the former president previously criticizing the congressman for his stance on issues such as the Epstein files, where Massie has actively advocated for victims and transparency.

Massie hit back at Trump’s assertions by highlighting Moffa’s past support for Trump, stating, “Maybe someone told him she’s actually the one who suggested I ask Pam Bondi in person… when we would get Phase 2 of the Epstein files.” He further underlined his commitment to exposing injustice and remarked on Trump’s ongoing hostility, which he believes stems from his bipartisan efforts and criticism of the party’s handling of major issues.

The backlash from Trump’s comments has received support from former Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene, who criticized Trump for undervaluing loyal supporters like Massie and condemned fellow Republicans for their inaction. Greene’s post highlighted the need for unity among party members and chastised those who remain silent in the face of perceived injustices within their ranks.

This incident indicates a rising tension within Republican circles, with Massie’s critique of party leadership and political decisions putting him at odds with Trump. Massie’s stance reflects a growing desire among some Republicans to address accountability and ethics, illustrating a potential rift in the party as the 2024 elections approach. Despite the challenges posed by Trump’s support for Gallrein, Massie maintains a significant voting alignment with Republican principles, pushing back against Republican dogma whenever he feels it compromises fundamental values.
