Tony Plohetski, an esteemed journalist with national recognition, has made significant contributions to the fields of print, digital, and television journalism. Since joining the Austin American-Statesman in 2000, Plohetski has delved into some of Texas’ most pivotal stories, using his investigative skills to drive accountability and foster legislative changes. His reporting was instrumental in the coverage of the tragic 2022 Uvalde school shooting, which not only earned a nomination for the Pulitzer Prize Gold Medal for public service but also won the Taylor Family Award for Fairness in Journalism from Harvard’s Nieman Foundation.
Throughout his career, Plohetski has amassed an impressive array of accolades, receiving over two dozen national and state journalism awards, including the prestigious Edward R. Murrow Award and multiple National Headliner awards. Recently, he was honored with the Dan Rather Medal for News & Guts in 2021, recognizing his journalistic courage.
