Ratu Aca Rayawa, the chairman of the governance, audit, and risk committee of the iTaukei Lands Trust Board (TLTB), has publicly defended CEO Solomone Nata against criticism circulating on social media. The backlash stems from allegations made by former Fiji citizen Vilisi Nadaku, who accused Mr. Nata and the board of corruption.

In a statement, Mr. Rayawa strongly denied these claims, labeling them as false and defamatory. He specifically addressed Nadaku’s assertions regarding the board’s handling of retirement benefits for former staff members. “This allegation is simply untrue and libellous,” Rayawa emphasized.

He further clarified that TLTB’s policies concerning staff benefits have been established through resolutions approved by the full board, in compliance with Section 3 of the iTaukei Land Trust Act. Moreover, he noted that the two former employees mentioned in the allegations, along with a third, were actually qualified for retirement benefits but were ultimately denied due to adherence to policy.

Mr. Rayawa conveyed that the board’s decisions were made with a commitment to fairness and justice, reinforcing that TLTB will not validate Nadaku’s claims which contradict the organization’s established procedures. This defense aims to uphold the integrity of the board during a challenging period, showcasing a commitment to transparency in governance.
