The Tennessee Titans concluded the 2026 NFL season with a disappointing 3-14 record, landing them at the bottom of the AFC South and leading to yet another absence from the playoffs. Their final game was a disappointing defeat against the Jacksonville Jaguars, with a staggering score of 41-7, where the Titans’ defense was overwhelmed, conceding 41 consecutive points. This period of struggling has triggered significant changes within the team’s management, most notably the departure of head coach Brian Callahan and the hiring of Robert Saleh, who aims to bring a fresh perspective to the franchise.

In an exciting development for Titans fans, the team is set to welcome a familiar face from the Florida State Seminoles as they make roster adjustments.

According to NFL Insider Tom Pelissero, the Titans have reached an agreement with the New York Jets to trade nose tackle T’Vondre Sweat for Jermaine Johnson II, a former Florida State standout defensive end. The trade is pending approval and will become official at the start of the new league year in March.

Johnson, 26, is entering the fifth and final year of his rookie contract. A first-round selection in the 2022 NFL Draft, he achieved Pro Bowl recognition in 2023 and has accumulated 13 sacks over 47 games throughout his career. After facing an Achilles injury during his rookie season but bouncing back to start 13 games in 2025, Johnson’s performance was commendable, recording 43 tackles, five for a loss, and three sacks.

During his time at Florida State, Johnson was a force to be reckoned with, leading to his first-round draft selection. He had a standout season, notching 70 tackles, 12 sacks, and earning accolades as the 2021 ACC Defensive Player of the Year. Across his college journey, which included stints at Georgia and Independence Community College, he recorded a total of 106 tackles and 18.5 sacks.

The Titans are poised for a transformative off-season, with Coach Saleh leading the charge, creating hope for a turnaround in the team’s fortunes as they strive for improvement in the upcoming season. The acquisition of Johnson could be a pivotal move in re-establishing the Titans’ defensive strength, an area that has been a significant concern in recent years.
