Fordham University, along with several other unnamed universities across the United States, received threatening emails earlier today, which prompted a swift response from campus security. The alarming messages, detailed in an email from Robert Fitzer, associate vice president of Public Safety, were sent to the Fordham community at 11:09 a.m. and contained language condemning various racial and religious groups, while also threatening specific buildings on campus.

Among the buildings mentioned were Walsh Library and Freeman Hall, which are both crucial academic facilities at Fordham’s Rose Hill Campus. In light of these threats, the New York Police Department’s Emergency Services Unit carried out extensive searches of both buildings before they opened for the day. Fortunately, they reported no evidence of any immediate threat following their inspection.

As a precaution, Fordham University has increased security measures on campus, with the presence of NYPD officers to ensure the safety of students and faculty. Fitzer emphasized the importance of vigilance within the community, encouraging anyone who witnesses suspicious activity to contact 911 or reach out to Fordham Public Safety at 718-817-2222.

In his email, Fitzer noted, “Even false threats cause very real damage to our sense of security,” underlining the impact such incidents can have on a community. The situation remains ongoing, and updates will be provided as more information becomes available. The prompt action taken by law enforcement reflects a commitment to maintaining a secure environment for all members of the Fordham community.
