The Texas A&M women’s basketball team achieved a much-needed victory against Auburn on February 15, bringing a sense of optimism after a challenging stretch in Southeastern Conference (SEC) play. With only four games remaining before the SEC Tournament, the Aggies have experienced a season filled with highs and lows, beginning with a strong 7-2 nonconference record, followed by a more difficult 3-9 run in the SEC. As they prepare for their upcoming challenges, the Aggies remain focused on finishing the season strong.

Next, A&M will head to Knoxville, Tennessee, on February 19, to take on the No. 21 Tennessee Volunteers. Following the road trip, they will return home for a significant matchup against the Arkansas Razorbacks on February 22, where the team will celebrate their seniors in their final home game at Reed Arena. This next pair of games will test head coach Joni Taylor’s squad as they look to regain momentum in a tough season.

According to ESPN Analytics, the Aggies face odds of just 3.5% of defeating the Volunteers, making them significant underdogs. Senior guard Ny’Ceara Pryor, who leads the team with an average of 15.6 points per game, will be crucial for A&M’s chances against a formidable Tennessee team eager to overturn a recent loss to top-ranked Texas. Tennessee has a strong side, led by redshirt junior Talaysia Cooper, who is a contender for the 2026 Naismith Defensive Player of the Year. Cooper stands out in several categories, including points, assists, steals, and field-goal percentage. Currently, Tennessee ranks fourth in the SEC with a record of 16-7 overall and an 8-3 conference record.

Coach Taylor emphasized the need for defensive pressure, stating, “We’ve got to get to shooters, we’ve got to box out. Teams that like pressing don’t always like to be pressed.” The Aggies recognize that they are entering a challenging environment in Knoxville, facing a team that is determined to improve its standings in the SEC.

Following their battle against Tennessee, the Aggies will return to Texas to face Arkansas, a struggling team currently at the bottom of the SEC standings with a 0-12 conference record. This matchup presents an opportunity for A&M to secure another win, although they must not take their opponents lightly. Arkansas features strong players like senior guard Taleyah Jones, who averages 17.2 points per game, and freshman Bonnie Deas, who stands out defensively with 9.1 rebounds per game.

Texas A&M fans should arrive early for the Senior Day festivities on February 22, as the team recognizes four seniors: Lauren Ware, Lemyah Hylton, Jordan Webster, and Pryor. The Aggies have a significantly favorable chance of winning against Arkansas, projected at 73.9% by ESPN Analytics, and they will surely aim to send their seniors off on a high note.

With the support of their fans and a determined spirit, the Aggies are poised to confront the challenges ahead, creating hope for a successful conclusion to the season.
