Taye Diggs and Tamar Braxton are set to star in the upcoming thriller “Stepfather,” produced by Footage Films. Directed by Chris Stokes, who co-wrote the film with Marques Houston, both are onboard as executive producers for the project. The film, scheduled to premiere on Tubi in 2026, draws inspiration from the 1987 cult classic of the same name.

In “Stepfather,” Diggs portrays Darnell, a man marked by childhood abuse, whose unresolved trauma drives him to seek out the perfect family he never had. When his new wife, Asia, played by Braxton, and her daughters fall short of his idealized expectations, Darnell resorts to drastic measures to eliminate obstacles in his pursuit of the perfect household.

The synopsis describes Darnell’s disturbing pattern of violence as he works to maintain his notion of family perfection. As the story unfolds, the tension mounts when Asia and her daughters start to uncover Darnell’s deadly history, complicating his plans and creating a suspenseful narrative.

Production has already begun in Los Angeles, sparking interest in the project. Diggs, known for his role in Lifetime’s romantic comedy “His, Hers & Ours,” recently completed a Broadway engagement in “Moulin Rouge!” and has been recognized for his supportive co-parenting with ex-wife Idina Menzel for their son Walker.

Meanwhile, Tamar Braxton is gaining attention for her new EP “Heartbreak Renegade,” which features narrative elements that explore love and relationships, capturing her emotional journey through her life experiences, including interactions with her family.

As “Stepfather” approaches its release, both Diggs and Braxton continue to showcase their talents in diverse projects, promising an engaging viewing experience for fans. Their collaboration in this psychological thriller is generating excitement, blending elements of suspense and drama through their compelling performances.
