The Water Authority has announced essential maintenance work scheduled for the Tamavua Water Treatment Plant this weekend, which may result in temporary disruptions to water supply in several areas. The maintenance will begin at 3 PM on Saturday and is expected to restore water supply during the early hours of Sunday.
This maintenance focuses on replacing a faulty valve at the plant’s inlet, which is responsible for regulating the flow of raw water from the Savura Raw Water Pump Station. WAF engineers have identified this valve as a contributor to inconsistent water inflows, putting strain on the overall water supply system. By addressing this issue proactively, the Water Authority aims to avert potential major asset failures and enhance the reliability and resilience of the water supply at Tamavua.
As a result of the maintenance work, treatment capacity at the Tamavua Plant will be reduced by about 50%. Customers in affected areas may experience lower water pressure, intermittent supply, or temporary outages. To mitigate the impact, the Water Authority has committed to prioritizing water supply for essential services such as CWM Hospital during the maintenance period.
Water production is anticipated to resume by 3 AM on Sunday, though full service restoration may extend several hours as reservoirs are refilled and treatment processes normalize. Residents are encouraged to store enough water ahead of the shutdown and use it judiciously, particularly by refraining from non-essential activities such as garden watering or car washing.
To support residents facing disruptions, water carting trucks will be on standby. The cooperation of the community during this crucial maintenance is greatly valued, as it will lead to enhanced service and a more reliable water supply system in the long run. Emphasizing the importance of infrastructure maintenance, this effort reflects the Water Authority’s commitment to ensuring that the community has access to safe and dependable water resources.
