Fiji Airways men’s sevens playmaker Terio Tamani recently emphasized the crucial need for improved discipline as the team prepares for the upcoming Vancouver 7s tournament. His remarks followed a narrow 19-21 loss to South Africa in the men’s cup final at the Perth 7s, which took place at HBF Park on Sunday evening. In that match, Fiji’s missed opportunities and penalties ultimately proved detrimental.
Tamani stated that discipline remains a vital area for enhancement, noting the team’s tendency to incur yellow cards. He remarked, “In some games we were getting yellow cards, and we need to improve on that,” underscoring the importance of maintaining self-control as they gear up for subsequent matches.
Despite their defeat, Fiji displayed remarkable resilience by staging a late comeback, although South Africa’s poise in the final moments of the game ensured their victory. The playmaker believes that concentrating on discipline will be pivotal for the team’s prospects at the upcoming Vancouver 7s.
Fiji is now turning its attention to the Vancouver 7s, where they find themselves in Pool B, facing tough competition from Argentina, France, and Australia. Scheduled for March 7-8, the tournament presents an opportunity for the team to recover and learn from their recent experiences. With a determined attitude, Fiji aims to maximize their potential and enhance their game, embodying the resilient spirit that has become the hallmark of their sevens rugby legacy.
