The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is implementing a comprehensive diplomacy strategy, particularly through its Prosperous Nation Project, aiming to boost both international friendship and the well-being of citizens in partner countries. Foreign Minister Lin Chia-lung highlighted that the “Taiwan Model” of international development focuses on the specific needs of Taiwan’s diplomatic allies, ensuring effective outcomes from collaborative efforts.

In a meeting held in late January, Lin emphasized the importance of investment and cooperative initiatives as a way to deepen and broaden Taiwan’s international relations. He introduced the “Taiwan Model,” which facilitates Taiwan’s support for the development of its international partners as a strategy for maintaining diplomatic ties. Lin argued that while it may bear a resemblance to China’s Belt and Road Initiative, the outcomes of the Taiwan Model have proven to be more effective.

Lin cited successful collaborations with Palau and Paraguay, both of which have called on Taiwan for assistance, believing that initiatives like the Rongban Plan will bolster their development. As a result, these nations have increasingly advocated for Taiwan on international platforms.

Palau, a steadfast ally of Taiwan, has engaged in various cooperative efforts. In December, Lin led a delegation from the Diplomatic Allies Prosperity Project to Palau, as the Pacific Islands Forum hosted by the country provided a venue for showcasing the tangible results of Taiwan’s partnerships with its allies. Similarly, relations with Paraguay continue to thrive under the Taiwan Model. Recently, the Paraguayan Health Minister visited Taiwan to discuss opportunities in the health sector and smart healthcare, reinforcing commitments to enhance bilateral cooperation.

Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Hsiao Kuang-wei remarked that these developments underscore how Taiwan’s diplomatic initiatives, particularly through the Prosperous Nation Project, significantly enhance friendships between countries while promoting the welfare of their populations. This multifaceted approach not only fosters stronger alliances but also constructs a promising future through mutual support and development.
