Jens Laerke, the spokesperson for the U.N. Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), revealed that nearly 34 million individuals are in urgent need of assistance, characterizing the scope of the suffering as “staggering.” The intensity of violence has particularly surged in the Kordofan region, where towns such as Kadugli and Dilling face relentless fighting, drastically hindering access to vital resources like food, healthcare, and market services.
The toll on children has been especially devastating, with UNICEF spokesperson Ricardo Pires reporting that over five million children have been displaced from their homes. This alarming statistic indicates that approximately 5,000 children are forced to flee daily as the conflict persists.
