A light band of snow has traversed the area, with occasional flurries expected Friday evening. While no significant accumulation is anticipated, drivers should be cautious, as slick patches and reduced visibility could pose challenges on the roads.

As noted by meteorologists, there has been a presence of graupel, resembling small ice pellets, in parts of the region. Drivers have reported varying visibility levels, particularly along major routes like I-70. The National Weather Service has issued a snow squall warning, indicating that visibility can change abruptly within the affected snow band.

Currently, the heaviest snow is falling across areas from Raytown to Independence, with the snowfall expected to shift south and east. Areas including Olathe and Grandview are also likely to experience these winter weather conditions in the coming minutes.

Due to the relatively mild temperatures hovering near 40 degrees, road conditions remain primarily wet. However, real-time updates via live radar indicate that snow will pick up around Raymore shortly, continuing to move towards Lake Lotawana and Peculiar over the next half hour.

Following this transient snow band, conditions are expected to improve, although brief snow showers may linger into the late evening. As the weather pattern shifts overnight, the forecast indicates a chilling drop in temperatures, with Saturday’s high reaching only 21 degrees Fahrenheit. Wind chills are predicted to feel even colder, in the single digits, making it essential for residents to dress warmly if venturing outdoors.

As the weekend progresses, Sunday may bring some sunshine alongside a significant cold front, lowering temperatures into the mid-20s on Monday. However, a rebound is forecast for Tuesday, with temperatures climbing back into the mid-40s. This upcoming week appears to be a mix of seasonal temperatures, with fluctuations that residents will need to prepare for.

Despite the chilly conditions, there is hope for brighter days ahead as conditions improve towards the latter part of the weekend, providing opportunities for outdoor activities as long as the right precautions are taken.
