Bula vinaka from Singapore!
The excitement of covering a sporting event in a new venue always brings its share of challenges, and my experience on the first day was no exception. I woke up early, determined to arrive before the gates opened at 8:30 AM. However, finding the right entrance proved to be a bit tricky. Fortunately, I made it to the media room just in time for the 9 AM briefing.
One unexpected hurdle I encountered was the need for separate accreditation to take photographs. My reporter’s accreditation alone did not suffice, adding an extra layer of complexity to the day. Nevertheless, juggling photography, interviews, and video coverage is all part of the job, and it’s a challenge that many in the media embrace.
My main focus for the day was to report on the opening matches of the Fiji men’s and women’s teams. Following the conclusion of those matches, I turned my efforts toward uploading content online and providing real-time updates to our audience.
Unfortunately, the Fijiana team faced setbacks, losing their first two matches, which shifted the spotlight to the men’s team. They showcased sharp skills and confidence in their opening game, instilling hope among fans, including myself, that they can successfully defend their title at the Singapore 7s.
As the evening progresses, the matches will continue nearly until midnight Fiji time, promising a long but exciting night ahead. Despite the long hours and early start, this experience has been nothing short of remarkable. I eagerly look forward to finals day in this vibrant city.
Until the next update, ni sa moce!
