Olympic track star Sha’Carri Richardson, known as the “fastest woman in the world,” has been arrested in Orange County for speeding. The incident occurred on Thursday, when deputies reported that Richardson was driving at an astonishing speed of 104 miles per hour on State Road 429 near Stoneybrook Parkway. In addition to her excessive speed, authorities indicated that she was “dangerously tailgating” other vehicles and changing lanes recklessly to overtake them.
Following her arrest, Richardson was booked into the Orange County jail and charged with dangerous excessive speeding, defined under Florida law as driving 100 mph or more. She subsequently posted a $500 bond and has since been released.
Florida’s super speeder law, which took effect in 2025, aims to deter high-speed driving by targeting those traveling 50 mph over the posted speed limit or exceeding 100 mph on any roadway. This law is part of a broader effort to enhance road safety in the state.
Richardson’s speeding incident adds another chapter to her controversial recent history. In 2021, she faced disqualification from the Tokyo Olympics after testing positive for THC, which ignited discussions across the country regarding marijuana’s legal status, especially considering its growing acceptance in numerous states. Nevertheless, she made a remarkable comeback, securing a gold medal in the 100-meter dash at the U.S. Outdoor Track and Field Championships. In 2024, Richardson represented her country in the Paris Olympics, where she earned both gold and silver medals.
