The Department of Environment has confirmed a sewage spill into a stream in Nabua, Suva, following a public report on the afternoon of December 30, 2025. Local residents alerted authorities around 3:43 PM after noticing a bluish discoloration in the water beneath the Jerusalem Road bridge, prompting a swift response from environmental officers.

Upon investigation, officials traced the contamination back to an underground culvert near the Nabua Sewerage Pump Station. To accurately assess the situation, drones were deployed for an aerial inspection of the area, a modern technique that allows for comprehensive evaluation in such cases.

The findings indicated that untreated sewage was escaping from the culvert and entering the stream, causing the visible discoloration. In light of this, authorities are planning additional evaluations and will implement corrective measures to address the sewage issue. This proactive approach underscores the commitment of environmental officials to protect both public health and the local ecosystem. By tackling this issue head-on, they aim to ensure water safety and reduce pollution in the region, fostering hope for a cleaner and healthier environment for all residents.
