Oregon snowboarder Sean FitzSimons took to the slopes early Sunday morning at Livigno Snow Park for the men’s slopestyle qualifier at the 2026 Winter Olympics. Originally scheduled for Monday, the event was moved up a day due to anticipated snowfall.

In a strong field of 30 competitors, FitzSimons finished in 26th place, achieving a best score of 26.50 during his first run, followed by a score of 20.43 in his second attempt. Despite not advancing, he showcased his skills and determination in a high-pressure environment.

In contrast, three U.S. snowboarders excelled, successfully securing spots in the final. Ollie Martin led the team with a score of 78.30, placing sixth overall. Jake Canter and Red Gerard followed closely, finishing 10th and 11th with scores of 70.53 and 70.00, respectively. The final is scheduled for Wednesday, February 18.

Slopestyle events require athletes to perform tricks across various sections of the course, with judges scoring each run. Participants complete two full runs, with only their best score counted toward advancement, illustrating the high level of competition and skill required to succeed.

This slopestyle qualifier marked FitzSimons’ second event at the Olympics, having previously participated in the men’s big air qualifier on February 5, where he placed 25th with a total score of 136 points. Despite missing out on a final spot, both of FitzSimons’ performances have highlighted the potential for growth and future achievements in his snowboarding career. The spirit of competition continues as he and his fellow athletes prepare for upcoming challenges.
