COLUMBUS, Ohio — Jaxon Smith-Njigba, the former Ohio State wide receiver, has been honored as the PFWA Offensive Player of the Year for the 2025-26 NFL season, marking a significant achievement in his career. The Seattle Seahawks star finished the regular season as the league’s leading receiver with an impressive total of 1,793 yards, complemented by 10 touchdowns and 119 receptions, all of which represent personal bests for the third-year player.

Smith-Njigba, who hails from Rockwall High School in Texas, made a name for himself as a five-star prospect when he joined Ohio State in the 2020 recruiting class. During his tenure with the Buckeyes, he recorded 109 receptions for 1,691 yards and 10 touchdowns, significantly contributing to the team, particularly during his standout sophomore season. Although his final year at Ohio State was marred by injury, it did not deter his draft status. The Seattle Seahawks selected him with the 20th overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft.

In related news from the PFWA, Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford was named MVP while Browns defensive end Myles Garrett earned the title of top defensive player.

Meanwhile, the Ohio State women’s basketball team is also thriving, as they prepare to face Indiana on Thursday. The Buckeyes are currently on a six-game winning streak, which began with a victory over Purdue in late December. Their successful run includes wins against ranked teams such as Maryland and TCU. Leading the charge for the Buckeyes is Jaloni Cambridge, who is averaging 21.6 points per game, placing her third in the Big Ten.

These achievements reflect the strength and talent present in Ohio State athletics, highlighting a bright future for both the football and basketball programs.
