The beloved hospital comedy series “Scrubs” is making a comeback, premiering on ABC and Hulu after 25 years since its debut on NBC in 2001. The revival season brings back original stars Zach Braff, Donald Faison, Sarah Chalke, and Judy Reyes to the familiar setting of Sacred Heart Hospital.
During the red carpet premiere of the revival at the Academy Museum in Los Angeles, Braff, who portrays John Michael “J.D.” Doria, reminisced about his early acting days. He recalled waiting tables in a beige tunic and serving French Vietnamese cuisine while auditioning for “Scrubs.” “I was lucky enough to audition six times and get this show; it changed my life,” he stated. Braff expressed surprise at the show’s enduring popularity, saying, “I never thought the demand would continue this many years later.”
Similarly, Faison, who plays Christopher Turk, shared his experience of auditioning for what he remembered as “the hottest pilot of that season.” He reflected on the long wait between being cast and filming, noting that it felt like a significant turning point in his career. “It has been such an amazing ride,” he said, highlighting his disbelief at the revival’s reality.
Chalke, who portrays Elliot Reid, recalled the moment she received her audition script. “It was so groundbreaking and different,” she said, appreciating the unique combination of humor and emotion that series creator Bill Lawrence brings to his projects. Reyes, who plays head nurse Carla Espinosa, described the experience of returning to the revived series as surreal yet nostalgic, emphasizing the strong connections the cast has built over the years.
While there is no confirmation of a second season yet, the cast shared their dream guest-star ideas. Chalke expressed interest in having Kate McKinnon appear as a patient, while Faison would love to see acting legends like Harrison Ford or Denzel Washington join the cast. Reyes suggested a storyline featuring Bad Bunny, where her character would struggle to treat a star she is a big fan of. Braff chimed in, proposing a return of former guest star Scott Foley to reprise his role as his nemesis.
