The Fijian Media Association (FMA) alongside the Pacific Islands News Association (PINA) has announced the dates and location for the 8th Pacific Media Summit, which is set to be held from September 21 to 25, 2026, in Savusavu, Fiji Islands. With the theme “Reaching the Remote: Media and Digital Innovation for a Connected Blue Pacific,” this biennial gathering aims to draw between 150 to 200 media delegates from across the Pacific, comprising journalists, editors, media executives, academics, development partners, donors, and various other key stakeholders.
The Pacific Media Summit stands as PINA’s flagship initiative for fostering dialogue, collaboration, and action regarding critical media development issues within the Blue Pacific region. This summit will serve as an essential platform for media professionals and collaborators to confront emerging challenges, stimulate innovation, enhance standards of professionalism, and stress the significance of independent media in relation to sustainable development.
Kalafi Moala, President of PINA, remarked on the importance of the 2026 Summit, stating, “The Pacific Media Summit continues to be our region’s most important platform for strengthening media solidarity and innovation, ensuring that even the most remote communities are connected, informed, and heard.”
FMA General Secretary Stanley Simpson expressed enthusiasm about the prospect of Fiji hosting this significant regional event. He stated, “We look forward to welcoming our Pacific colleagues to Savusavu as we explore how media and digital innovation can better serve our island communities and advance a truly connected Blue Pacific.”
The last Pacific Media Summit took place in Niue in September 2024, underscoring the importance of rotating the event among various Pacific Island nations to enhance inclusive regional engagement.
Participants at the upcoming summit can look forward to a range of dynamic activities, such as panel discussions, keynote speeches, technical workshops, and networking opportunities. The topics slated for discussion will cover various aspects including digital transformation, media sustainability, emerging technologies, press freedom, climate change reporting, and inclusive storytelling aimed at remote island communities.
As preparations are underway, further details regarding registration, program highlights, and partnership opportunities will be shared in the months leading up to the event. The enthusiasm around the upcoming summit highlights a dedicated effort to unify media professionals in their ongoing mission to connect and uplift Pacific communities through innovation and collaboration, ultimately paving the way for a more informed and connected region.
