Ryan Seacrest recently took a moment to reflect on his extensive legacy with American Idol, a show he has been a part of for over two decades. Initially joining the series in 2002 as a co-host alongside comedian Brian Dunkleman, Seacrest quickly became the sole host after Dunkleman’s departure. This opportunity catapulted him to fame and significantly increased the show’s viewership during its formative years.

During a conversation with PEOPLE at the press line for Nashville’s American Idol Season 9, Seacrest shared his thoughts on what he hopes viewers take away from their experience watching the show. He stated, “In terms of what I hope people expect from me, or get when I’m on any show, is that they feel comfortable watching it. They enjoy it. It doesn’t seem like it’s too difficult. They can have anybody of any age watch the show. People can get together as a family watch the show.” Seacrest emphasized the importance of creating a welcoming atmosphere, making it feel as though he has been a familiar presence in their homes for years.

He explained his hosting approach, which involves tuning into the audience’s energy and adapting on the fly. “When we get into our live shows, we have an idea of how it’s going to go, but it never really goes that way. And you follow the ball, and make people feel as comfortable as they can on the stage, and have fun with the judges,” he elaborated.

Seacrest derives motivation from the diverse range of contestants who participate each year, many of whom have waited their entire lives for the chance to audition. In addition to his work on American Idol, Seacrest is also hosting Wheel of Fortune and Celebrity Wheel of Fortune, showcasing his versatility and continued influence in the entertainment industry.

Ryan Seacrest’s dedication to creating an inclusive and enjoyable environment on American Idol resonates with fans, ensuring the show remains a cherished family favorite for years to come.
